My opinion is that linking to a free open source extension does not make the question on topic.
The OP should not expect people to install the extension and try to solve the problem (even if this might happen).
but, posting a significant part of the extension in the question (the one that causes the problem) should make it on topic.
This is exactly what ...
I also flagged this question for closure. In case of these questions, the new user has been helped out either by comments or by answers, so we didn't send him off and he probably is happy with the help he got. Quite friendly I suppose
Now the question was closed with the reason "can't be reproduced OR seemingly went away on its own (or went away when a typo ...
Good point. I've been closing more and more questions and I try to do it for good reasons.
Couple of reasons why I flagged this one
over a year old
only 66 views so low Google value
Magento EE so no easy way to reproduce
Bit broad / vague. The chance of getting an answer was in my opinion low.
You have to admit that there are a lot of old questions, most of them badly written, that will never get an answer here.
These should be closed (in my opinion).
Because we neglected these questions when they were posted, now, while doing a cleanup most probably there will be some collateral victims in the process.
I don't have a bullet proof solution for ...
the problem on this kind of question is, there are a lot more then 10 possible carousels. Maybe even above 100.
All very different, so in the end its only personal opinion, what everyone is suggesting.
also, a simple google search should bring up a lot of possible solutions. Or a magento connect search.
Fabian,in my mind there are two options
Convert to Community wiki
leave them as they are
If we make it close as off topic that becomes confusion for users as it already magento related and basic question for a developer. As MSE is great platform for Magento resource,so any one of developer can give answer in links or multiple answer. Also i have seen ...
How about asking, as a comment, the OP if there has been any progress? Active users will be alerted and be given a chance to update the question (possibly even an answer).
Even though I wasn't alerted, I just came across benmarks' question by chance, which prompted me to clean up a lot of my old questions. However, I understand that many users are ...
And, the specific problem like I given maybe can't be reproduced, but some other newbie might meet a similar problem, and get inspired form the question.
Not really. Even if someone uses matching search terms, he should not find a questions that is related to a typo.
Closing such questions is right im my opinion.
For the comment:
How can a question ...
I would not encourage to support theme or tutorial requests.
Answers to these requests probably only contain links to other resources containing the themes. These links will break in the future making the answer worthless.
Also these kind of questions will come in thousands of variants without them being actual duplicates: "Where can I find a ...
I asked a similar question earlier regarding closing my own question.
Ref: Delete or Vote to Close my own question
Though the questions are good in my opinion, i never found a solution of it and also didn't got the answer.
I was advised to be my own judge by @benmarks and i decided to keep them open hoping someone might stumble upon it sometime and can ...
I'd like to add that when I stumble upon a question that is unanswered and vague/low quality/unclear/old and maybe, maybe after placing a comment the OP will come back to improve/answer it himself, I have forgotten completely about this question if he doesn't. I think for most of these questions the OP won't come back.
Closing it when you stumble upon them ...
